We invite people from across Canada to join us for our next virtual gathering on Saturday, August 15th from 11am-12pm ET/8am-9am PT/12pm-1pm AT to build momentum for VOW’s 1000 Women+ for Peace initiative and plan our next steps together. The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, in partnership with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, is bringing together women and gender-diverse people across the country for our 1000 Women+ for Peace campaign calling on the Government of Canada to reduce military spending and invest instead in a green care economy—one that prioritizes climate action, housing, education, health, the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the recommendations of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirited, adequate funding for Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), and the well-being of people over the expansion of warfare.
We have begun planning with people across Canada and are now coming together to strategize how we can broaden our reach and strengthen our campaign. Together, we will:
- Plan ways to distribute and amplify our promotional materials in communities across Canada
- Organize outreach to our networks and contacts, including emails and letters to Members of Parliament
- Invite people to join us in Ottawa for a collective action
- Encourage and support local actions across Canada in recognition of the International Day of Peace
- Share ideas, resources, and strategies for bringing more women and gender-diverse people into the movement
- Build a coordinated national effort to make our message impossible to ignore
This is a moment to raise up our voices and take action!
Every email sent, invitation extended, conversation started, poster shared, signature gathered, and local action organized helps build the momentum we need. By working together across regions and communities, we can demonstrate the strength of a national movement calling for a Canada that chooses peace, care, justice, and sustainability.
Whether you are new to the campaign or have been involved from the beginning, there is a role for you. Bring your ideas, your connections, your energy, and your willingness to take action.
Together, we can send a clear message: We choose CARE, NOT WARFARE!
