Advocacy

We build on our foundation of awareness-building and peace education to advocate on a range of issues organizing initiatives from the grassroots to international campaigns.

Peace Poppy

To wear one is to remember all victims of war, both combatants and civilians. The Canadian Voice of Women holds white poppy-making parties and works to promote peace to prevent war from making future victims. We raise awareness and reject the glamorization of war and Remembrance Day with fighter jets flyovers that only serve to re-traumatize veterans and victims of war and cost taxpayers money that could have gone to social services that benefit veterans.

Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS)

The International Peace Bureau (IPB) founded the Global Campaign on Military Spending (GCOMS) and the Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) which the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace has participated in for 7 years. We fully agree with the work of our partner, the IPB, and their push to #MoveTheMoney. Please join with us to bring attention to the absurdity of ever-increasing military budgets while citizens of the world struggle to make ends meet. Let’s invest in peace, not war! No to NATO

The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace joins with many other organizations in calling for the dissolution of NATO. NATO puts intense pressure on Canada to increase its military budget by billions of dollars to reach 2% of GDP draining our public funds into the military-industrial complex. NATO has bombed countries without UN approval and despite the overwhelming evidence urgently warning us about the devastating impacts and security implications of rising carbon emissions, climate change was not even on the NATO agenda.  We host webinars every month to raise awareness on this dangerous, male-dominated, nuclear weapons alliance.
