Photo Gallery: Mother’s Day Walk for Peace 2022

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the weekend action to share visual messages for peace honouring of mothers and grandmothers working for peace and connecting with the anti-war roots of Mother’s Day! VOW members and peace activists took photos with their signs from east to west – some with a friend or family member and others at larger community events.

Photos below include ones sent in individually, many from the collaborative Toronto event with VOW and Pax Christi at Christie Pits Park, and some from the walk to the Canada-US border in British Columbia (39th year!) organized by JJ Verigin and Laura Savinkoff of the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ where VOW Co-Chair Hannah Hadikin participated.

If you have not yet sent in your photos, email them to info@vowpeace.org. Thanks to Murray Lumley and Marla Slavner for many of the photos from the Toronto event.

From Julia Ward Howe’s “Mothers’ Day Proclamation” 1870: “Arise, then… women of this day! … From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It says: Disarm, Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice. Blood does not wipe out dishonor, nor violence vindicate possession. As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war, let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of council.”
