NOW IS THE TIME: CANADA SIGN THE BAN TREATY! Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day Remembrance

Join the Hiroshima Nagasaki Day Coalition for a series of events from August 2nd to 8th at Toronto City Hall, including a photographic exhibition and the 79th Anniversary Commemoration of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings on August 6th.

The Hiroshima Nagasaki Day Coalition invites you to a week of commemorative, reflective, and engaging events at Toronto City Hall, beginning with the “Canada and the Atom Bomb Exhibition” from August 2nd to 3rd and 6th to 8th. This powerful photographic exhibition shows how Canadian uranium and Canadian scientists contributed to the development of atom bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 1945–highlighting the nuclear weapons age threatening human civilization today and urgent need for disarmament.

On August 6th, join us at the Toronto Peace Garden in Nathan Phillips Square for the 79th Anniversary Commemoration of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The event will feature esteemed guest speakers, including Rooj Ali and Nobel Peace Prize co-recipient, Setsuko Thurlow, alongside special presentations and musical performances. Community and craft tables will be available from 4:00 to 6:30 pm, with the commemoration ceremony following from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Conclude the evening with a moving lantern ceremony to honour the memories of those affected. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public, providing a space for reflection, commemoration, and a call to action for a nuclear-free world.
