Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS)

The International Peace Bureau (IPB) coordinates the Global Campaign on Military Spending (GCOMS) and the Global Days of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS) which the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace has participated in for 8 years. We fully agree with the work of our partner, the IPB, and their push to #MoveTheMoney towards these 5 broad areas.

1. Peace: disarmament, conflict prevention and resolution, human security;
2.  Sustainable development and anti-poverty programmes;
3.  Climate change and biodiversity loss – for mitigation and adaptation;
4.  Public services/social justice, human rights, gender equality and green job-creation;
5.  Humanitarian programmes to support the most vulnerable groups.

In 2018, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reported that in 2018 the world spent 1.82 trillion dollars on the military. We at the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace believe that that money could be better spent investing in peace, health and the environment- not on the military and war machines.

Please join with us to bring attention to the absurdity of ever-increasing military budgets while citizens of the world struggle to make ends meet. Let’s invest in peace, not war!
