OUR CALL TO GOVERNMENTS: NO MORE ARMS FOR ATROCITIES – TIME FOR A BULLET PROOF ARMS TRADE TREATY

The irresponsible and poorly regulated arms trade fuels serious human rights abuses, armed violence, poverty and conflict around the world. We could change that now with an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Sign this Appeal and demand that in July 2012 governments agree to an ATT that protects human rights, lives and livelihoods.

Millions of people are being killed, injured, raped, repressed and forced to flee their homes every year. Health, education and other services are being denied and livelihoods destroyed.

The world needs a strong Arms Trade Treaty that will prevent arms transfers if they are likely to contribute directly to serious human rights abuses, war crimes or poverty. The Treaty must cover all conventional arms including ammunition.

I call on every government to secure an ATT that effectively prevents arms from fuelling such atrocities and abuses.

To: His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D. Governor General of Canada

We the undersigned citizens of Canada are deeply concerned at the practices of the current government. We have witnessed blatant disregard for our democracy, and our charter of rights and freedoms by the above mentioned government of Canada, the Harper government.

We feel the Canadian people have absolutely no democratic voice, and feel it is within our rights to have a truly democratic system.

We ask that the crown protect the right to fair governance by way of a royal commission into the state of democracy in Canada, with binding recommendations to change our current system of government.

We ask the crown to dissolve parliament immediately, and that the government voted into power in the following election have limited power, during and after the royal commission while we the people decide on how to structure our new democracy.

Petition for a Vote of Non-Confidence:

Petition Background:

We, Canadian people, have lost confidence in the ability of Stephen Harper’s Conservative Government to democratically govern Canada and to respect the foundational democratic structures and institutions of our country and the democratic aspirations of the Canadian people.THAT we have lost confidence in the ability of Stephen Harper’s Conservative Government to democratically govern Canada and to respect the foundational democratic structures and institutions of our country and the democratic aspirations of the Canadian people;

THAT the following actions of the Government and its ministers have added to a growing loss of confidence in the Government by the people of Canada and we the undersigned believe their occurrence is cause for the dissolution of Parliament and the calling of a new, democratically-monitored election:

-There is growing evidence exposing massive, intentional, structured vote-suppression of non-Conservative votes in the last federal election.

-The Government of Canada, through its Minister of Agriculture, has publicly stated it need not heed a ruling of a Canadian court of law with regard to the need to consult with prairie farmers via a plebiscite before dismantling the Canadian Wheat Board’s single desk monopoly over sale of wheat on the prairies.

The Conservative Party of Canada during the last federal election, along with the Minister of Defence of the current Conservative Government, has consistently misled both the Canadian public and Parliament about the true cost of purchasing F-35 fighter jets, in addition to not opening these contracts to competition.

-The intervention and biasing by the Minister of Natural Resources of a federal Joint Review process of the Northern Gateway Project before the process had even begun, along with the Minister’s contempt for Canadians expressing divergent opinions from that of the project’s proponent, whose side the Government has chosen to take.
