Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) also hosted an event at the CSW57. Established in 1960, Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW)
is a non-partisan Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) comprised of a network of diverse women with consultative status at the United Nations ECOSOC. For over 50 years, VOW has provided a means for women to exercise responsibility for the promotion of world peace and justice, through education of themselves and others to take an equal part in the democratic process of decision making; and to cooperate with women throughout the world to create the mutual respect and understanding necessary for the peaceful resolution of international conflict. We attended the 57th Commission on the Status of Women and hosted a VOW event entitled CONFRONTING MILITARY SEXUAL VIOLENCE, Challenging Militarized Security. Tamara Lorincz, Halifax based lawyer and Board member of Canadian Voice of Women for Peace says “… it is imperative that we express to Status of Women Minister Ambrose, Prime Minister Harper and other members of Parliament our concerns about violence against women in the Canadian military…“.
The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace supports the Global March for Peace & Unity (GMPU) initiative (see below), and look forward to our collaboration with Pathways To Peace, the Culture of Peace Initative (CPI), GMPU, and Cercle de Paix – Circle of Peace.
