February 20 Email Blitz to Justin Trudeau Calling for a Department of Peace
On February 20, the UN Day of Social Justice, the Canadian Peace Initiative Board, chapter members and institutional supporters, are asked to coordinate an email blitz to the Justin Trudeau. The email address for Justin is: firstname.lastname@example.org.You may also wish to send a copy to the Liberal Party of Canada provincial body, not the provincial Liberal party. Below are some talking points but, overall, we are seeking the Liberal Party’s position on a Canadian Department of Peace:
1. Point out that Justin, in April 2011, endorsed the Department of Peace BIll [ C-447], stating in a card to our Yukon coordinator, Kevin Rumsey, after they had met in Whitehorse, “I am supportive of the Bill and mostly of the principles that underlie it.”
2. We wish to determine the Liberal Party’s position on the Bill, now Bill C-373, at this time, given that the Green Party of Canada and several members of the NDP federal caucus are in support of the BIll. We are following up with the new NDP caucus, after the previous 37-member caucus, under Jack Layton, were in support.
3. The Bill has the support of more than a million and a half Canadians, through the endorsement of organizations of which they are members, as well as many prominent Canadians, including the Hon. Lloyd Axworthy, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Canada and the Hon. Douglas Roche, former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament.
4. Jim Karygiannis, MP (Scarborough-Agincourt), has supported the Bill in both its’ versions.
The emails should vary in their wording and not use the word for word sentences above. Unique messages making the same points are excellent. Brief is good as long as we make the request for a response on the Liberal Party’s position on a DoP. Reference to the UN Day of Social Justice would also be useful.
If you have different talking points to make, please do so. This appeal goes to our entire list of supporters and all chapter lists as well to email
email@example.com on February 20th. Thank you participating.
