Enhancing Women’s Share in Peace & Security
This is an outcome document of an event that took place in November 2014 in Vienna last year. The two-day international symposium entitled “Enhancing Women’s share in Peace and Security” brought together international experts representing international organizations, academia, civil society and representatives of governments to discuss how to best enhance implementation of the UN agenda on “Women, peace and security”.
Priority was given to aspects that tend to be side-lined, such as the application of a gender-perspective in developing conflict prevention measures or in conflict analysis. Another focus was the role of (new) media in the implementation of SC-Res. 1325 as well as the role of women as “active agents of change” in all phases of efforts towards peace.
The results of these debates have been compiled in this policy paper, which contains 36 concrete recommendations for states, international organizations, civil society and media, and will be submitted as Austrian contribution to the Global Study on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Res. 1325 (Oct. 2015) and the Beijing+20 process.
