Bill C-242 An Act to amend the Criminal Code (inflicting torture)

Bill C-242

Jeanne Sarson and Linda MacDonald, of Persons Against Non-State Torture, are two Nova Scotia nurses who have dedicated many years in support of survivors.  They are asking for support of Bill C-242 An Act to amend the Criminal Code (inflicting torture), the private members bill by MP Peter Fragiskatos. The Bill will be studied by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights this fall, and Jeanne and Linda will be testifying before the committee on Thursday, September 22.

MP Peter Fragiskatos has an online petition that VOW members could consider signing.  The petition is in the journal of the Canadian Nurse with an article about their work called Champions for the cause; here is the link for the online petition: http://londonnorthcentre.liberal.ca/private-members-bill/  The Canadian Nurses Association is in full support of the Bill as are other organizations.

We also encourage Individual VOW members to send an email in support of the bill to Peter Fragiskatos and other MPs on the committee.  We also encourage you to sent a message of support for this bill to your local MPs as this will inform them about Bill C-242.
