Beloved VOW member Anne Goodman passed today August 1, 2013
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that our very loved mother, daughter, and wife, Anne Goodman, passed away this morning, August 1, 2013.
A private family funeral will take place in accordance with a natural burial approach, as she wanted.
A public celebration of Anne’s life will take place on Monday August 12, from 2-5 p.m. in the Floral Hall at the Toronto Botanical Gardens (777 Lawrence Avenue East), one of her favourite places.
This will be an opportunity to come together to honour the extraordinary person that Anne was, to pay tribute to the amazing impact she had upon so many and the world, and to share in the beautiful memories that we all have of such a wonderful, caring, and inspiring person.
We are asking guests, if possible, to participate in a “flower potluck,” bringing a bunch of flowers from your garden or somewhere special to you to help decorate the space in a manner befitting of Anne. (We will have some vases or mason jars for them but extra ones would be appreciated). We would also ask that anyone who is skilled in origami make and bring paper cranes, so that the space will be filled with the message of peace that they represent, and that was so significant to Anne throughout her life.
If you wish to make a donation in honour of Anne, a donation to the peacebuilding organization that she co-founded, InterChange (www.interchange4peace.org), can be made through the website or www.CanadaHelps.org.
In addition, we plan to plant trees all over the city in honour of Anne (she liked this idea!). Contributions can be made to the Anne Goodman Tree Fund by sending an e-transfer to Nathan Greene at email@example.com (please email him directly with any questions).
On behalf of Anne, we want to thank all of those who provided such love and support during this challenging journey. She told us that she appreciated all of who you shared in her experience as she went through it. Your letters and notes comforted her, gave her hope and insight and reminded her of just how very much she was loved, by so many, from all over the world.
As her family, we would also like to thank those who have been such a source of strength and support to us during this incredibly difficult time. Your messages, love, visits, food and hugs have meant so much to us as we try to make sense of something that can never be understood. The community that has been created around us is very much in the spirit of Anne.
Thank you for loving her.
Sandy, Vicki, Susie, Michael and Sonia (Yaya) – fondly and proudly known as Team Anne
